About

I am a thirtysomething Minneapolis-based writer and publishing professional. I was raised in Northfield, Minnesota, home of a Malt-O-Meal factory, Defeat of Jesse James Days, and two great liberal arts colleges. Aside from my family and friends, my two greatest passions in life are the written word and running. I attended Carleton College, where I earned a B.A. in English Literature with a Concentration in Media Studies. While at Carleton, I ran cross country and track, spent a semester in Edinburgh, wrote for the student newspaper, and served as a Rhetoric Assistant for Carleton’s fantastic Summer Writing Program.

I had the absolute privilege to attend Smith College in Northampton, Mass., where I earned an M.S. in Exercise and Sport Studies. I was especially interested in the sociology of sport—specifically in regard to gender—and I wrote a qualitative thesis about the social implications of high school girls competing in traditionally male sports. I coached and taught for several years but have since returned to the publishing world. I currently help develop corporate training materials and am particularly interested in leadership development. Check out The 8 Dimensions of Leadership, a book I coauthored with two professional colleagues.

I live in a chaotic but love-filled home with my husband Josh, our two-year-old daughter and infant son, and two dogs who (God help me) love to dig. It’s difficult to balance my responsibilities as a wife, mother, employee, home owner, runner, and writer, but I love a good challenge, and I’m sure that many of my readers can relate.

My blogoir (blog meets memoir),  Divorced Before 30, was the first draft of my memoir, From Splitsville, With Love. I am represented by Claire Gerus of the Claire Gerus Literary Agency. I love to hear from readers and fellow writers and can be reached at emma@emmawilhelm.com.
