Social Media Blahs

I’m totally uninspired to update my Facebook status or Twitter feed, and lately, I seem to start blog posts that fizzle out after three or four half-hearted sentences. Pinterest bit the dust last week after months of neglect; I deleted my account altogether. Yes, friends, I’ve got a bad case of the social media blahs.

You’re not missing much during my relative silence. Here’s a taste of the earth-shattering news from my world, both the good and the bad, and in no particular order.

I’m so tired that yesterday, I nodded off while sitting on the potty.
I can’t believe my baby boy is a walking, talking one year old.
Gluten-free bread makes totally edible croutons.
Addiction sucks ass.
My solution to kiddo artwork build-up: photograph all projects, recycle most.
I can’t decide whether my wicked case of indecisiveness has gotten better.
Having poop in one’s refrigerator (lab sample) is WEIRD.
I gave up paper towels and now wield a mean dishrag.
Someday, I might get up the nerve to sport a pixie cut.
I had a nightmare that Josh and I were fighting over paint chips.
Is it really so hard to believe that I actually WANT to keep breastfeeding?
De-cluttering feels so good—why do we inevitably collect more shit?
I need to make more time for the consumption of fluffy media.
I’m obsessed with root beer floats and chocolate-hazelnut spread.
My preschooler knows her way around the ipad better than I do.
I can’t think of a better way to invest 20 bucks than a kiddie pool.

That is all.

I Want to Know

  • I have a hard time sticking with Facebook and Twitter lately. I wear I didn’t touch Twitter for a month and now it’s like cricket when I’m on. Sad. I need to let it go!

As for the Root Beer Float thing…it’s m summer obsession and I had what might have been the most ground breaking RBF of my life at a local coffee shop the other day. They just spiked the root beer with heavy cream and topped with whipped cream. All the cream awesomeness without the frozen sludge after the root beer is gone. It was pretty amazing ;)

Oooh…that RBF sounds yummy. I’ve been using homemade frozen custard, and I let most of it melt before drinking. YUM!

I tend to be a consumer of tweets more than a producer. I’ve learned a lot of cool things on Twitter.

  • I hear you! I haven’t been updating anything as often, either. Instead of calling it social media blahs, I prefer to say I’m living life offline more LOL.

I can identify with a lot of what you wrote – indecisiveness, preschoolers with iPad skills, buying more stuff when you want to get RID of stuff, etc.

What’s new with me? Hmmm. I had to keep all my kids up until 10:20 pm tonight because my oldest had a baseball game and we all had to go. Yawn!

I like it. I’m living life offline more. :-)

I look forward to the days of baseball games and such. We’ve been playing at a park where our town does Little League, and it’s fun to watch. Actually, it’s more fun to “people watch” the families than anything else!

  • I get that way sometimes too. And have backed off a bit from some stuff, and not stressing as much at ‘keeping up’ ya know? I get the blahs every once in awhile too and seometimes I think it just means a need for change, or even, just a weekend of quiet or away somewhere serene. Hope you feel better…and you’d rock a pixie cut!

You continuously amaze me by your ability to keep up. You are probably the most consistent blogger I follow! It’s good to know that even you can relate. :-) I do agree that I could use a weekend away. Amazingly, I have no such plans for this summer, but my daughter is asking for a girl’s camping trip, so we’ll see what I can do.

I think I’ve grown permanently sick of Facebook, only reason I haven’t deleted is because it works as a pick me up for when I’m done and not happy with my life, I can log on and see people from my past have it way worse.

Twitter I don’t get sick of much these days, I used to when I used it differently, I followed people I knew and they never tweeted anything interesting and took a hiatus off of it for Lent last year, it was so refreshing and now I only follow sites or people that tweet interesting things.

Blogging I’m currently burned out on, I was doing some freelance blogging for a video gaming site recently along with doing movie reviews, and I burned out, I just got sick of writing and realized I’m not cut out to be a professional writer. I wish I was but I get discouraged and frustrated and just put it off far too long sometimes. I’d rather just talk, thinking of doing a podcast but we’ll see about that…

    • Emma

A podcast would be interesting. I’ve briefly thought about adding some video blogging to my sites, but that seems like even more work, and I’m short on time more than anything.

I totally agree w/ you about twitter. I follow a wide range of really interesting people (most of whom I don’t know IRL), and I don’t really get bored of reading other people’s tweets.

      • Adam Wells

Yea I almost stop following people on Twitter if more 75% of their tweets are foursquare or get glue check ins or any other automated service that tweets what they are up to. I dont need to know what people are up to every single minute of the day.

  • My blogging has slowed considerably. Spending more time on Facebook the past week, partly because I have a broken leg and spend a lot of time with my iPad. I was just catching up on some of your recent posts and I recognize so well your competing goals and desires. You are a wonderful writer and a creative person, and you want to take on big projects and excel. All I can say is your kids are fabulous “projects” too, and before you know it they will be in school all day. Then you should have a tiny bit more time for the Big Hairy Audacious Goals. Okay, so we’ve established that I may not be blogging much but I haven’t stopped putting in my two cents worth!

  • omg I have the social media blahs so bad right now…can barely make myself do anything. And basically that root beer float sounds really good about now…yep, lots of elipses, sorry it’s the best I can do at the moment–ha! Happy weekend to you!
